In order to improve the level of Georgian language knowledge, in the framework of the program 140 School Subject Specialists, Bachelors, were assigned to non-Georgian language schools of Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti region in 2011. The teachers involved in the program support local Georgian language teachers of non-Georgian language schools in teaching Georgian. The program participants are hosted by local families during their stay in the selected regions. The host families receive additional training in Georgian language.
This kind of program will promote not only the increase of the level of knowledge of Georgian language among the teachers and students, but also the interaction with local population and organization of extracurricular activities which will improve the knowledge of Georgian language in local population.
The programme participants will stay at schools for one academic year. All participants attended one-week intensive training course before starting their academic year as teachers. The training course provided information about the basic principles of pedagogy, working in pairs and conducting bilingual classes. It should also be noted that in case the Bachelor level graduates wish to pursue the Master’s degree studies the Government will finance their studies, provided that these persons participated in this programme.
Currently, next 163 program participants have been selected on the basis of competition. They will be assigned to non-Georgian Schools from January, 2012. In the frame work of the program all non-Georgian schools will be covered by the end of 2012.
