In 2011 the National Center for Teacher Professional Development provided the textbooks of Georgian language for the grades I-VI for national minority school pupils. Starting from 2012 the textbooks for other grades will also be developed.

The textbook of Georgian language as a second language are based on the principles of the modern pedagogy; the cornerstone of which is the communicative teaching. Teaching language in communicative-interactive manner largely differs from traditional grammar-translation teaching approach. The textbooks for the beginner’s reflect the sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic characteristics that are common for this age group.

The topics of the textbooks are based on the interests of pupils and their daily life experience, real life situations and needs. As far asteaching grammar is concerned, the emphasis is made on the so called “applied grammar/communicative grammar”. The grammar instruments will help the pupils to achieve better level of language knowledge.

It is important that all teaching materials, not only the textbooks, but also audio-visual materials are used in the teaching process. In addition, special computer games were developed and downloaded in the first graders net books and also were placed at special web-page www.buki.ge
