The “Pestalozzi” program is a training program for educators. The Council of Europe within the framework of European Cultural Convention implements the program since 1961. It offers various training opportunities for teachers, teacher trainers, school heads and other professionals in education. The participants come from all over Europe (from the 49 countries party to the European Cultural Convention) and amount around 2000 participants annually. The seminars offer the participants sharing of the experience of Council of Europe in educational initiatives, intercultural experience, exchange of information, materials and innovative practices with colleagues. Thematic content of the seminars are respectively determined by the priority projects of the Council of Europe.
To provide wide range of opportunities for the Georgian teachers to participate in European seminars and trainings, in 2009 the National center of Teacher Professional Development and the Council of Europe entered into an administrative agreement regarding the disbursement of participants' travel expenses. As a result of this initiative the number of Georgian specialists participating in the seminars delivered in EU countries has significantly increased. Throughout 2009-2011 32 Georgian teachers, teacher trainers and Education experts had been selected to attend Council of Europe seminars held in different European countries.
